Our Adoption Process
Visit the Shelter
Come meet our cats during adoption hours (Tuesday–Sunday, 10 am – 3:30 pm). Spend time with them and find the right match.
Complete an Application
Fill out a simple adoption application. Our staff will review it and answer any questions about your chosen cat.
Take Your Cat Home
Once approved, your new companion goes home with you — fully vetted and ready for love. Adoption fees help cover medical care.
Adoption Fees
Adoption fees cover spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchipping, and initial medical care.
Fees may vary. Ask our staff for current pricing during your visit.

Relinquishments
Relinquishing a cat requires an appointment with our office staff and is based on availability of space at the shelter. A blood test for FIV and FELV is required. There is a fee for relinquishments. Older and unadoptable cats are subject to the rules of our Immediate Care Program. Please note that the Shelter does not accept feral cats. Call us at 619-561-0361 ext 0 for further information about relinquishment and to schedule an appointment.
Friends of Cats, Inc. is not able to take in stray cats. By law all stray animals MUST be taken to the local Animal Control Agency. This allows owners who may have lost these pets an opportunity to find their cat. Friends of Cats, Inc. works with the local county shelters to take cats from them when they are overcrowded.
