Friends of Cats: Part Shelter, Part Sanctuary

·By San Diego Pets Magazine

Feature article in San Diego Pets Magazine about Friends of Cats as a member of the San Diego Animal Welfare Coalition.

San Diego Pets Magazine profiled Friends of Cats in their Coalition Corner feature, highlighting the shelter's dual role as both an adoption center and a permanent sanctuary for cats who cannot be rehomed.

"Friends of Cats is not only a shelter, but a sanctuary for cats who are unadoptable due to behavioral or medical issues," said Janet Bianchini, shelter director at the time. "We also have a Future Lifetime Care program that allows us to care for cats after their owners have passed away."

The article highlighted the shelter's special facilities, including separate housing for FIV and FeLV positive cats awaiting adoption, and a dedicated "shy" building that helps unsocialized cats adjust to shelter life before being introduced to potential adopters.

As a member of the San Diego Animal Welfare Coalition, Friends of Cats works closely with other shelters to take in cats when they are overcrowded, contributing to the coalition's "Getting to Zero" goal of ending euthanasia for healthy and treatable animals.
